Our Guiding Principle

"Something must be done to reduce the economic insecurity in the African-American community and specifically in African-American single parent households. Many of these families are economically and politically insecure and generally miseducated about how to gain access to resources that can enhance their lives (Source: IWWWE Organizing Document).

Linkages

In meeting the needs of our sisters, our goal is to use community resources more effectively and to bring innovation to all that we do. We support other community services and programs. We locate and refer those we serve to other programs that meet their needs. Our services fill gaps. That is, we offer services not readily available from other agencies and organizations.

Research

Our university partners help us to maintain our Scholar-in-Residence program which links our services to our history. We seek to understand health disparities and those factors that contribute to economic and family well being.

Community Responsiveness Report Card

Through our agency referrals, we create a way to support effective and efficient community agencies. At the end of the year, we issue a report and work with others who can advocate for our program participants.

"If you don't like the way the world is, you can change it.  You have an obligation to change it.  You just do it one step at a time."
